A Note on Satire

Satire is a genre that holds up to ridicule any individuals’, corporations’, or societies’ shortcomings, follies, and vices. The intent is usually of shaming the target of the satire in order to force some kind of improvement. In its harshest form, satire is used to greatest effect and purpose as a way of offering constructive social criticism; wit, as its weapon of choice, is used as a tool to draw attention to issues within society.

In the case of “City of Dark Magic” and many other more lighthearted satires, the medium is used for the effect of humour, featuring the strong use of both irony and sarcasm as well as parody, exaggeration, double entendres, et al.
