REVIEW: “The Raven Boys” by Maggie Stiefvater

“My words are unerring tools of destruction, and I’ve come unequipped with the ability to disarm them.”

My rating out of 5: 5

A quick note about “The Mortal Instruments”:
Though currently unfinished — its final novel, City of Heavenly Fire, releases this May — I cannot rate the series at a 5 due to my usual rant of THE ENDING IS PARAMOUNT. Had the series finished at its third novel, I’d just give it a 5 but, as it stands currently with its five current novels, it rates at a solid 4.

A quick note about “The Infernal Devices”:
The prequel trilogy to “Instruments”, this series far outstrips its still-running predecessor in terms of overall storytelling, narrative arcs, character creation and development, and full-blown closure. It’s final novel, Clockwork Princess, absolutely blew me away and so this entire series earns its 5 out of 5 rating.

A quick note about “Wolf’s Rain”:
It took me a few tries to get into this series, mainly just having to get over the whole wolves-that-pretend-to-look-like-people-but-are-not-people thing. That and the fact that, after its mid-season climax, the show really begins to slow and sort of limps towards its series finale. But it does have one heck of a series antagonist in Darcia III as well as some beautiful imagery. I’d give it a solid out of 5.
