Review: Child 44

Child 44
Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A five-star mystery and characters with three-star writing.

The writing’s not bad, it’s just very linear…and very boring. It’s a serious case of “This happened and this happened” and “character A did this and character B did that”, et al. Which is a shame because the actual mystery is gripping and the characters are intriguing.

I can see why someone grabbed this up to turn it into a film, because despite it’s underwhelming writing style, the tension between characters, setting, and story are quite gripping. Honestly, I think I’ll end up enjoying the film more than I did the book…
